I'm Beef!

You Are Beef

You're big, burly, and maybe even a little stinky. And no one's going to come between you and a good steak.
And you've probably never met a vegetable you like, unless fries and ketchup count.

I'm so fucking tired of my father.  He does this to me every time and I hate it!  His birthday was a few days ago, but because my parents were out of town, I only gave it to him today.  So I give him the present, he opens it, just puts it on the table behind him and asks how long he has to return it.  Fuck!  He did this to me at Christmas too.  Doesn't he understand that it's about the thought?  That just to buy him the stupid gift I had to work a day and a half or so just to afford it?  I just wanted to get him something nice that he could use.  For fucks sake, doesn't he know that when you get something you don't like your at least supposed to pretend and then ask about returning it delicately later on? I wanted to show him that I was thinking about him.  Next time I'm just getting my dad socks so that when he returns them I won't be so upset.  I don't know why I even bother, I know it's going to happen every time and it's not like he even got me a card for my birthday.    I give up, I can't take this any more.

Just Another Day

  • 31st Dec, 2006 at 10:52 PM
I guess it's time for the typical end-of-year retrospective. I'm not so into that this year. I'm more interested in a end-of-year introspective. I really don't feel like I've grown much this year, which is not a nice feeling. I've had some pretty humbling experiences, from having to leave China to visiting creepy hook handed psych doctors, but not much has changed. In reality I didn't challenge myself much. I need a challenge, and so I'm opening it up to those few who read my journal to give me suggestions. I don't feel the need to enter the new year with this challenge, it will begin when it does. After all, this who New Year's crap is just a man made invention anyway. Hell, new year used to be celebrated in April! Yep, the cynic strikes again. Well, to all of you, have a happy new year and don't forget to leave your ho a nice tip.

Well, now that we have opened the gifts, I am going back to bed. But first I thought I would share..
Best gift: a tract of Canadian boreal forest adopted in my name.
Worst gift: a good five pounds of CIDA financial reports from around the millennium.

Next year I'm hoping for the reports from the department of fisheries.

It's quite a bit earlier than I usually get up, but Quiggley woke me. I'll go back to bed after this. While today is Christmas Day, it certainly doesn't feel like it. The weather has been ridiculously warm, the daffodils are peeking through the ground, and there is zero snow. It's actually pretty scary.

Being home for the holidays isn't as bad as I thought, at least not yet. Last night we had our traditional xmas eve dinner with a friend of my mother's. She brought over her toy poodle Jazz (I think that's what he is). Quiggley and Jazz are quite friendly and seemed to have a good time playing together. It's actually pretty funny to see.

Well I should go say hello to the fam-damn-ly.

Wrath at X-mas

  • 17th Dec, 2006 at 10:22 AM
I'm hiding in the basement now, and plan to do it all day. Mom is having friends over for lunch, and whenever that happens during the holidays, she turns into a mega bitch. Lots of yelling and over-zealous vacuuming. I just don't want to deal with it. At least my Dad agrees with me.

Last night's party at [info]tolandria's was strange, but I guess it was no stranger than usual. Marnie was held down and given multiple hickies. The typical worst porn shots ever were placed on BJ's computer (sorry Beedj). And there was awkwardness... boy was there awkwardness. But the food was good. Three cheers for the lasagna!

I'm looking at the painting [info]misterfergus made for me a couple of years ago for my birthday, and can't wait until she comes back into town. I definitely miss her. We always had great conversations. She doesn't know it, but she is totally wonderful and I love her very much.

Crap my mom found out that I'm awake. Now I have to go help or deal with her wrath (or more likely, both).

We decorated the xmas tree tonight. It's the first time in three years that I've been home for the holidays. I have to say that I'm not thrilled about that. I don't really like this season. I'd rather get gifts for people because I want to and find something really special for them than go out on a shopping blitz because it's what's expected. Last year I bought two gifts, and recieved pretty much the same. The gifts were small but meaningful and totally awesome. Call me Scrooge, but I'm not religious and can't really make myself care.

Work is going well, I have another week at this temp job, but I like the people. My attitude has totally changed from the first couple of weeks. I guess I just judge too quickly. Here's to hoping I can find a decent job in the new year. I'd love to get out of here, but it's hard to leave when there are people here whom I love very much.

I am also addicted to facebook.

Cookies, cookies, cookies

  • 10th Dec, 2006 at 6:44 AM
Yesterday's baking session with [info]tolandria has proven something very creepy... I've clearly gone all domestic. We made an assload of cookies of every type. Everything that I made turned out pretty much as expected and tasted pretty good. Add this to the meal I made a couple of weeks ago, and I've turned into someone who can actually cook. Who knew. I've just been living off prepared meals.

I've been given an extension at the temp job, which is nice in the fact that I should be working in the week coming up, and it's really not a bad job, but I really need some time off to deal with some things sooner rather later.

Robert has been messaging me the past couple of days. Asking me questions that are pretty creepy. Like if I miss him (I only met him in person three times, and all he talked about was about the ex-fiancé who got out while she still could), and last night if BJ ever asked about him. If she cared. Honestly I don't like hurting anyone's feelings, but at the same time I don't like flat out lying either. He is seriously delusional, and not in a fun way.

My parents went on vacation a couple of weeks ago. Not 100% sure where they went, but I think it was Cuba. Or possibly the Dominican Republic. I thought they were supposed to return yesterday, yet that didn't seem to happen. I really should pay more attention. I know I'll get the full slide show of all the buffets they visited when they do return.

What I do like about my parents being away is that Quiggley spends more time with me during the night. She's way more apt to cuddle up. But during the day I just can't keep up. She needs more attention than I can give. She's still young and needs to be played with and cuddled constantly. Just putting her out and bringing her in seems like a full time job since she won't stay out for more than 15 minutes due to the cold, then seems to forget and wants to go back out. Problem is that you can't just ignore her, she cries and whines like I haven't fed her for a week.

It's a little early, but I think I'll get up for a while and watch the bounty that is Sunday TV on 7 a.m.

Take Warning

  • 30th Nov, 2006 at 7:43 PM

Take Warning It's true, you do get what you pay for. Got a warning from the OC Transpo fare squad. They took me off the bus and everything. It should be more embarassing, but honestly I didn't pay, so I deserved it.

The person I interview with at CUSO suggested that I apply for a position in Lao PDR. I must admit that I thought about it, I really did. It was hard to say no, but I know I made the right decision in not applying. My doctor doesn't think I should leave the country, neither does my father for that matter. I would really love to go away again. Maybe I will once everything is sorted out.

This weekend promises to me interesting as the usual group of freaks and weirdos are planning to go to Barbarella's, a local B-class nudie bar. Full name being Barbarella's Diamonds Cabaret. Wow I can't wait to see scabby strippers. Sweet!

As strange as it sounds for me to say this, it's now 10:30, time for bed. I've been up at 6:30 am every day this week. I think I prefer being a night owl. I tend to get less done this way.

Temping Sucks

  • 25th Nov, 2006 at 8:45 AM
This should have been posted yesterday, but I was too lazy.

Notes from work:
- The Bear radio station has a very small playlist, they played Whiskey In The Jar yesterday (and again today).
- Don't use those passive-aggressive mannerisms with me, yes, I do have that many files left to do!
- Is the word temp, short for I hate my job?
- I took drugs and now I feel less hateful.
- Since I got to work, all I can think about is going to the supermarket. Going to the supermarket is more exciting than working here
- I'm using a rather nice pen, and when I leave tonight, I plan on taking it with me.
- This guy keeps wandering into the office I'm in and talking about some clever email he's done comparing one of the guys here with Ralph Lauren.
- Robert hasn't talked to me in almost a week, I wonder if my "gee, I'm getting out of the car here because I really want to get some fresh air" actually insulted him. I don't care, I'm just curious.
- This is the 3rd time I've heard Creep by Radiohead this week.
- To go to Lonestar, you should have to wear a cowboy hat.. or maybe chaps.
- 3 days in a row playing Nirvana's Lithium on the Bear. Contrary to popular belief, actually taking lithium isn't much fun.
- I was actually invited to the company potluck on Monday. Are they serious?!

That was work. Then instead of going out with friends, I stayed home and watched The Facts of Life.

My dinner party is today. I am excited.

My parents are going to Cuba tomorrow. I must say that I'm a little anxious to have them go. Having the house to myself is something that doesn't happen too often. I'm just a loner.

For the past week I've been temping at an exam processing firm, and I must say that the life of the temp is weird. No one talks to me, or even acknowledges my existence. My job is painfully simple, I open envelopes and sort them using a 17 colour coding system. It's a little crazy. Eventually I enter the data on a computer. No matter what I do it seems like I'm not working fast enough. Honestly I find it hard to care. Only two more weeks.

It's late and time to go to bed.

The Alcohol Must Die

  • 19th Nov, 2006 at 10:28 PM
It's just a shadow until ten o'clock. I'm supposed to go to bed soon since I have to be at my temp job for 9 in the morning. Somehow I don't see this happening as I went to bed at 5 am this morning.

This weekend has been a little weird. Friday night landed me in Barrhaven to visit Marnie. That was cool, except on the way back we missed the bus and had to walk the half hour plus to Fallowfield station. BJ was thrilled to have to wait while I peed in a bush. I've never claimed to have much class.

Lately I've been totally addicted to grape juice. Seriously that stuff this the bomb. Apparently during prohibition, some grape growers would put labels on grape juice bottles warning consumers that the product could ferment and create alcohol, and explicitly state how NOT to make the juice ferment. Way to fuck with the system.

If I were alive during the time of prohibition, I would have loved to go to a temperance society meeting. I'd have only one question for the ladies... "are you serious?" I mean, come one, seriously. On a personal level I have no problem with teetotalism, but when you try to push it on others I have real issues. So that's my semi-intelligent thought for tonight.

I'm going to try going to bed.

On a quick side note, cream soda (which tends to have a vanilla flavor, except in Canada) was a typical temperance drink. YUM! Everyone have one for me tomorrow.
